Graded 30 GD 2 by SGC. Pose 123-3. Big Ed Delahanty spent 13 of his 16 years in the Majors with the Philadelphia Phillies, compiling a lifetime .346 batting average and 2,597 career base hits, and is generally considered one of the greatest hitters of all time. (He died tragically on July 2, 1903 in the middle of the baseball season, having been swept over Niagara Falls after being thrown off a—standing—train for drunkenness.) Delahanty is a Hall of Famer who appears on very few baseball cards, all of which are extremely scarce and desirable collectibles. The offered N172 Old Judge insert has a clean photo with a visually engaging image. The corners are minimally EX/MT, but the card is downgraded due to vertical creasing; most noticeable on the reverse. Surface wear can also be seen on the reverse. A much sought-after subject, portrayed on a period relic that boasts formidable eye appeal. Good condition.
