Ty Cobb signed his first endorsement contract with Louisville Slugger on October 13, 1908. Since signature models were not introduced until nearly a decade later, players were sent blank barrel bats and decal bats turned to their specifications. The offered Ty Cobb model bat hails from the 1908-10 labeling period. In addition to the remnants of the Ty Cobb portrait decal, what makes this particular club specifically Cobb is the C28 style model and the 34 5/8 inch, 38 ounce size which is consistent with what we have seen in Cobb signature model gamers that have changed hands over the years. This flame burned, ash bat displays heavy game use with tight grain and multiple stitch and ball marks throughout. The vintage handle tape is also an attribute found on the best Cobb gamers. MEARS has assigned a grade of A7. The base grade of 5 is incremented by 3 points for the great game use while 1 point is taken away due to deadwood evident on the barrel end of the bat. A great early Cobb gamer!
