Brutally scarce and so magnificently illustrated...these "Buster Brown Bread" pins celebrated the Detroit Tiger dynasty of 1907-09. Measuring 1-1/4" in diameter, these are celluloids that were produced by Whitehead & Hoag, as is printed in their perimeters and reaffirmed in the paper inserts that attend each of these pins. Logically, they were dispensed singly with the bakery product, and only in the greater Detroit region. The players aren't captioned in the issue, and proceeding to identify players beyond the obvious Hall of Famers is a bit dicey. However, according to the photograph that we provide with this collection, we will attempt to name these champion Tigers - left-to-right, and top-to-bottom. We introduce the detailing of this collection to report that all of them retain their original contour (with a couple very minor exceptions, as noted), and their surfaces are all clean with only negligible wear on a couple of them, evident at a fixed angle of light reflection. Specifically, there are included: Ty Cobb - minor discoloration primarily in the white background of the portrait and at the perimeter, EX; Boss Schmidt (?) - NM/MT; Hughie Jennings - NM/MT; Sam Crawford - very minor surface dimple from the reverse, NM; Donie Bush - very minor departure from a perfect contour, NM; Ed Summers (?) - very light surface abrasion, EX/MT; Jim Delahanty (?) - NM/MT; George Mullin - NM/MT; Wild Bill Donovan - NM/MT; and George Moriarty (?) - NM/MT. If not solely on the general merit of its overall condition, this collection (which approaches a complete set) amounts to one of the premier holdings of PD2 pins in our industry...They're rare.
