Along with the '27 Yankees, the '29 A's have always ranked among the greatest teams ever assembled. The squad finished with an astounding 104-46 record—a full 18 games ahead of the second-place Yanks. Al Simmons had a monstrous year, batting .365 with 34 HRs and a League-leading 157 RBI. The A's then capped off their "season for the ages" in spectacular fashion with a 4-games-to-1 trouncing of the Chicago Cubs in the 1929 World Series. This red-and-blue-seamed OAL (Barnard) ball features signatures spanning "3-8" in strength with HOFers rating "4-7": Wm. Gleason, Lefty Grove, Max Bishop (faint), Rube Walberg (faint), Jack Quinn, George Earnshaw, Lefty Yerkes, Ossie Orwoll, Eddie Collins, Al Simmons, Geo. Haas, Joe Boley, Bill Breckinridge, Homer Summa, George Burns, Jimmie Cronin, Jimmy Dykes, Bill Shores, Walter French, Bevo LeBourveau, Jimmie Foxx, Bing Miller, Mickey Cochrane, Connie Mack, Howard Ehmke, Sam Hale and Eddie Rommel. The ball is medium-toned with scattered light scuffing. Auction LOA from JSA.
