Date-stamped to July 4, 1939—the very day of his "Luckiest Man" speech at Yankee Stadium's Lou Gehrig Day—this poignant photo carries a news-clipping caption describing the scene: "'IRON MAN' ON SIDETRACK...It's Lou Gehrig, erstwhile first sacker of the New York Yankees, caught by a cameraman as he sits in a dugout watching his mates in action before game time. Gehrig, though suffering from chronic poliomyelitis, finds the dugout unappealing and spends much time with the Yankees in batting practice." The Acme Newspictures photo measures 7" x 9" and rates VG condition. Encapsulated as Type I by PSA/DNA.
