We have no idea just where Cy Young celebrated his 80th birthday, but we'd imagine that it wasn't far from his bucolic roots - Newcomerstown, Ohio. Upon his retirement, the great hurler returned to his native soil, and rarely ventured far from that tranquility. However, a "promoter" of sorts directed the making of this pin to be distributed to well-wishers upon the event of the mound legend's 80th birthday. The piece measures 2-3/4" in diameter; it appears to have been made from sheet metal and then coated in a plasticized material. The affixing device is a primitive safety pin. Certainly not mass produced, this pin was obviously produced in a quantity suited to the expected slate of guests, yet it's cleanly fashionable, and it remains in NM/MT condition.
