Graded VG 3 by PSA. Hall of Famer, in a sought-after "Rookie Card" appearance. Satchel Paige is, without a doubt, the most celebrated pitcher ever to come out of the Negro Leagues. It is unfortunate that Paige had no opportunity to show off his arm in the Big Leagues until 1947, when Bill Veeck gave him a chance. Although most considered Paige way too old to be competitive, he posted a 6-1 record with a 2.48 ERA. The rare short-print series in 1948 Leafs are some of the scarcest of all post-war cards. Paige is not only the key to this rare series, but he is also the key to the set. The offered example concedes corner wear and a few wrinkles on it's otherwise clean reverse. A clean specimen, in Very Good condition.
