With stout resolve, there are legions of able commentators and passionate fans who hold the ’61 Yankees in their highest esteem. History’s notable teams always showcase a major star or so…but the character of great teams, those with enduring legacies, is perhaps best determined by that extra measure of performance executed by the supporting cast. And viewed from that perspective, the 1961 Yankee roster must certainly rank among the finest. It follows, then, that one of the loftiest keepsakes in tribute to those Yankees of ’61 is a team signed ball, such as here offered. The medium is a lightly toned unofficial ball with a light layer of shellac, and scriptings have been placed in blue ballpoint. They reflect "7-8" quality. Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra share the sweet spot. In turn, the panels hold the autographs of Luis Arroyo, Clete Boyer, Jim Coates, Art Ditmar, Ryne Duren, Jesse Gondor, Jim Hegan, Ralph Houk, Elston Howard, Johnny James, Deron Johnson, Danny McDevitt, Spud Murray, Jack Reed, Bobby Richardson, Johnny Sain, Rollie Sheldon, Bill Skowron, Bill Stafford, Ralph Terry, Lee Thomas, Bob Turley and one other. Auction LOA from JSA.
