While the Cubs finished a dismal 59-103 in 1962 brighter days were on the horizon with a talented and youthful lineup featuring future Hall of Famers and that year's National League Rookie of the Year, Ken Hubbs. Tragically, Hubbs died in a plane crash after the 1963 season, his second full campaign. His signature on this Spalding Chicago Cubs ball is very strong, about "8." The aforementioned young stars also present here are Lou Brock, Ran Santo, Billy Williams, and Ernie Banks. 28 players have signed this ball with manager Charlie Metro on the sweet spot. In fact, on the opposite sweet spot is written "1961 Chicago Cubs" but the Metro signature on the sweet spot would have to make it during the 1962 season as Metro took over in May of that year as skipper. Also present is Barney Schultz, Don Cardwell, Don Elston, Bob Will, Cal Koonce, Paul Toth, Dick Bertell, Cuno Barragan, Bob Buhl, Andre Rodgers, Alex Grammas, Moe Thacker, Al Lary and more. Auction LOA from JSA.
