Graded NM 7 overall by PSA/DNA. Signature grades NM-MT 8; ball grades EX-MT 6. Historically, Ruth most generally signed a baseball's sweet spot when merely an autograph was requested. However, it's almost axiomatic that when an admirer asked him to pen a personalization with his signature, the Babe shifted to a side panel. Such is demonstrated in this particular treasure - one that he personalized "To Lynn From..." Most compelling in any Babe Ruth autograph is that despite his universal renown, he graciously and conscientiously spared the quality time in granting those autographs. Despite his larger-than-life fame, Ruth never departed from his tacit, self-appointed mission as the Pastime's greatest ambassador. We have not a clue as to 'Lynn' was, but the Babe afforded that fan a completely dedicated moment to deliver this magnificent autograph.
As is declared in our title, the signature was awarded PSA/DNA's professional esteem of NM-MT 8. That grading service evaluated the quality of the ball as EX-MT 6 - a determination based on its gentle (but universal) surface toning. The ball is unofficial - a quality Reach ball that served no on-field duty - and one that was probably made in the mid '40s. To be sure, Ruth signed meaningful numbers of official baseballs in his life, but his signature, reposing on the surface of a ball such as this one (and personalized as it is), adds an extra measure of familiarity. Categorically, Babe Ruth is the undeclared champion of the National Pastime, and a signed ball such as this masterpiece, fully symbolizes the embrace that he ceaselessly practiced with his adoring public.
