Indians star Earl Averill went 2 for 4 in the 1934 All-Star Game hitting a triple and a double driving in 3 runs. Averill's double in the 5th tied the game and the American League All-Stars went on to win the game 9-7. This 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" photo is affixed to cardboard with type-set attached to back with red ink and pencil notations. "The Sporting News," which still exists today was founded in 1886 by Alfred H. Spink and became the preeminent American Publication covering baseball. This photograph came directly from the archives of the "Sporting News" and has been designated as such by the official Sporting News hologram that has been adhered to the reverse. This original hologram assures its provenance as being acquired directly from this historic archive.
