This lightly used and moderately toned OAL (Harridge) ball bears nine blue ballpoint signatures from participants in the 1956 Old Timers Day game and festivities. Each Hall of Famer took great care in scripting a clear and bold "7-9" signature on the surface of the vintage ball. The stellar line-up includes: Frank Baker, Ty Cobb, Bill Dickey, Jimmie Foxx (s/s), Lefty Grove, Mel Ott, Tris Speaker, "Dazzy" Vance and Paul Waner. (Baker, Foxx, and Grove were all Maryland natives, Dickey--1954--and Vance--1955--were recent inductees into the Hall of Fame.) There are also two inscriptions in an unknown hand, reading "HALL OF FAME NIGHT - AUG. 24, 1956 - MEMORIAL STADIUM" and "Detroit (4) - Orioles (1)." (The Tigers bested the Orioles that night by rallying for three runs in the top of the 9th. Maryland native Al Kaline, the defending batting champion and future Hall of Famer, contributed a run-scoring single for the Tigers.) The ball concedes light evidence of handling and a few small abrasions (touching signatures in a just a few, inconsequential instances). A truly enviable collection -- presented on a single medium -- featuring a marvelous array of sought-after pennings. LOA from PSA DNA.
