The intensity devoted by Ty Cobb to his baseball endeavors translated perfectly into his military bearing … as seen in this photo of a resolute Cobb posed in his wartime captain’s uniform. Cobb spent a total of 67 days overseas in 1918, and then returned home to an honorable discharge. This 8" x 10" depiction bears "The Sporting News" stampings and various pencil notations on its back.

"The Sporting News," which still exists today, was founded in 1886 by Alfred H. Spink and it became the preeminent American publication covering baseball. This photograph came directly from the archives of the "Sporting News" and has been designated as such by an official "The Sporting News" hologram that has been adhered to its back. This special hologram assures the item's provenance as being acquired directly from this historic archive.
