In 1936, Frank Crosetti donned the number five, so new arrival Joe DiMaggio was forced to claim number nine. DiMaggio began making an impact on the New York Yankees immediately and lived up the hype as the prized rookie of 1936. Here is a 7" x 9" photo of the Yankee Clipper sporting his rookie uniform, with Acme Newspictures stamp and pencil notations on back.

"The Sporting News," which still exists today was founded in 1886 by Alfred H. Spink and became the preeminent American Publication covering baseball. This photograph came directly from the archives of the "Sporting News" and has been designated as such by the official Sporting News hologram that has been adhered to the reverse. This original hologram assures its provenance as being acquired directly from this historic archive.
