The reverse side of the cards reads " From 1923 till the late 40's the stocky Wells was a recognized master at shortstop. Speed, good hands and an accurate (though not strong) arm were his assets. He was tops at going back for short flies, enabling outfielders to play deep. He broke in with San Antonio in '23 and played with many clubs until 1949. He was with St. Louis Stars from '24 until their breakup in '31. During the early 40's Willie played in Mexico. The right-hand batter was not a long-ball hitter, but was usually over 320". One of the rarest Negro League HOF'ers. Pre-stroke signature is highly coveted! Mint signature!
