Acquired from St. Louis in exchange for fan favorite Minnie Minoso in November of 1961, left-handed swinging first baseman Joe Cunningham paid immediate dividends for the Chicago White Sox. Though he never delivered on his anticipated longball prowess (Cunningham had launched three homers in his first two big league games), "Jersey Joe" was 18th in the Junior Circuit's MVP balloting in his first year with the ChiSox, posting top-10 finishes in on-base percentage (.410), doubles (32) and triples (seven). Offered here is a signed White Sox road jersey worn by Cunningham in his inaugural American League campaign. This gray flannel, button-down garment features "CHICAGO" arched across the chest in blue cotton twill and "5" applied to the back and right sleeve in like fashion. "CUNNINGHAM" is arched above the number on the back in blue lettering. (The name and number on the back appear to be vintage replacements.) Cunningham's blue-marker signature ("9-10") graces the jersey's upper left front portion. A "MacGregor" size "42" manufacturer's tag is situated within the collar and on the interior of the left button panel's base, a flap tag denotes "SET 2 - 1962." There are four holes (as made) under each sleeve to facilitate ventilation. The item reveals evidence of moderate wear and shows no signs of repair. Pre-Certified by PSA DNA. LOA and Graded A-6 by MEARS.
