The claim stated at the bottom of each of these four pieces—"Users of Louisville Sluggers are members of Baseball's Hall of Fame"—proved to be true for all but one of the featured stickmen. In fact, the popularity of stars Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Mickey Vernon and Johnny Mize made those superstars perfect spokesmen for Louisville Slugger. Presented here is a complete set of four 1947 Louisville Slugger cardboard counter signs, each depicting one of the featured ballplayers. Composed by artist Sam Davis, a centered rendering of each athlete in full swing is highlighted by a multi-hued caption denoting that star's incredible accomplishment during that year. Surrounding the images are various cartoon depictions further glorifying the piece's subject. At the lower left corner is the "Louisville Slugger / Hillerich & Bradsby Co." logo. The 14-7/8" x 20" cardboard signs concede generally mild, age-induced material faults, yet the items still exhibit remarkable artistic presentation and vibrant colors; minimally EX in appearance, with color touches and surface repairs at several corners.
