The name "Star Player Candy" is instantly recognizable among advanced collectors. Nearly all known cards attributed to this manufacturer hail from the blank-backed 1928 issue which numbers 73 different players. Relatively recently, a second type of "Star Player Candy" card was discovered, and, to date, only three players from this variety have been confirmed. While these rarities initially appear to be similar in design to the aforementioned Star entries, they actually reveal different images of the players; also, the backs are numbered and display the player's biography. Here offered is not only one of those rare cards, but an occasion where the card and candy are still contained within their original, unopened pack. The glassine pack reveals an attractive #32 Lou Gehrig card with a great sepia-toned image. The 1-7/8" x 2-7/8" card appears EX/MT with just a little gentle bending of the card to accommodate the approximately forty small round pieces of gum inside the confines of the pack. The 2-3/8" x 3-1/2" glassine-envelope pack concedes light yellowing with two small tears near the top staple. The right edge bears a 1" split in the seam. Overall EX presentation quality. An extremely rare "type" card featuring the legendary Gehrig, beautifully preserved inside its original pack!
