Graded 20 FR 1.5 by SGC. Hall of Famer. This is the only example at its tier (with nine graded higher) among a total of fourteen copies recorded in SGC's census reporting. The 2-3/16" x 3-1/2" cards in this item's very rare, black-and-white production were reportedly released by a Detroit photography company in 1922. Each of the series' un-numbered, blank-backed collectibles features a portrait or posed "action" shot of its subject, along with a facsimile autograph placed in the area of the player's head or shoulders. The very fragile and seldom-seen pieces appear on many of the hobby's advanced specialty wantlists, and their desirability is enhanced even further by the inclusion of the period's most prominent superstars—such as this highly engaging entry featuring Ty Cobb. The release's uniquely clean and uncluttered appeal is showcased flatteringly by this eye-catching specimen, which betrays the effects of circulation through natural wear at the corners, small edge dings, and spots of superficial paper loss on the unprinted reverse. Fair condition.
