All of the paintings of George Chastain did not parody works by others. Several, such as this, would parody an entire genre of movies, publications or characters. In this frenetic barroom brawl, Chastain has populated the scene with animal characters who are representations of all the grizzly, grimy, gritty, trail-hardened, hard-drinking, sharp-shooting, western stereotypes that ever graced the silver screen of "B" westerns. Central to the composition is Chastain's own hero, Barrymore Duck in his white ten gallon hat and starred gloves. Battling alongside him is obviously a Gabby Hayes type sidekick with a shotgun at the ready. A masked Beaky Buzzard also makes an appearance to the left of Tonto and the Lone Ranger. Twenty-one characters in all, just out for some Saturday night fun. What started the ruckus? Was some unseen female insulted or was it just the result of a saddle tramp ridiculing Barrymore's sarsaparilla. The large 28" x 22" oil painting provides a thrill a minute, just like the films it satires. Pristine condition.
