Notre Dame has a rich and storied history on the football field, having won more National Championships than any other NCAA team in the country. This vintage lighted sign dates from the National Championship's inaugural season. It was in 1936 that the Associated Press established its national ranking, and although Notre Dame did not capture the title that year, the team did finish with a solid 6-2-1 record. Measuring 11" by 14" by 4", the attractive lighted sign delivers a glass-encased full-color paper display of the squad's 1936 schedule set against an attractive Technicolor-like game photo. A running back slips through the defensive line before a stadium full of cheering spectators. There is a strip along the bottom of the display reading, "Write FOOTBALL TICKET COMMITTEE NOTRE DAME, IND. for APPLICATION BLANK," presumably referring to season ticket acquisition. Probably hung in a South Bend area bar or in a corner news store to promote local ticket sales. Overall, the sign grades EX, with slight undulation on the photo/schedule paper. The sign's lighting is not in working order, however the simplest electrical repair would absolutely have the sign shining in its former glory. Exceedingly rare! An interesting vintage artifact, ideal for the die-hard Fightin' Irish fan or collector!
