A noted cover and interior illustration artist, Cole Bradley produced the bulk of his work in the 1930's to 1940's. He was regularly published within the pages of Liberty magazine, as well as in and on the covers of many other prominent magazines of the day. This classic circa 1940 detective story illustration painting presents a "film noir"-style femme fatale with her handgun aimed at the viewer. In addition to the exciting subject matter, the image also utilizes extremely sophisticated shading and coloring techniques. The sole light source emanates brightly from the floor, causing the black-haired beauty to squint and block the rays with her hand. Blues and blacks work together seamlessly, to giving the illustration an appropriately mysterious eerie glow. Glue residue in border area does not affect the 8.5 x 16.5 inch image area, which is flawless. Watercolor on board, signed lower right.
