The progressive New York newspaper, The East Village Other, published an eight-issue run of what has got to be the best Underground Comix tabloid ever, Gothic Blimp Works. All eight issues appeared in 1969 before the paper sadly faded away. Those of us who bought these gems when they first emerged will never forget the impact of each new issue. There is something truly special about this run, one that began with the incredible Vaughn Bodé as editor. All of the big names in the field are in these pages: Bodé, Crumb, Robbins, Reese, the Deitch's, Beck, Metzger, Spiegelman, Rodriguez, the list goes on and on. The low-quality newsprint used for these publications has only proven to rapidly speed their demise, but these NM/MT Don Donahue file copies are incredibly sharp and clean, and largely off-white in color. They've never experienced the usual display and shipment folding in their centers, either. Unbelievable copies with unbelievable provenance, these are the best of the best. Issues included: #'s 1 (2 copies), and 5 through 8.
