An extremely rare 1878 trade card depicting the Buffalo Bisons. Among the players is Hall of Famer Jim “Pud” Galvin, (spelled Galven on the card) who won 360 games in the major leagues from 1879-1892. During his last season, in 1892, Galvin faced Tim Keefe in the last matchup of 300 game winners until 1986 (Sutton/Niekro). The 1878 Bisons were members of the International Association, finishing the season with a 32-12 record and a first place finish. In 1879, Buffalo joined the National League, finishing in third place with many of the same players, with Galvin winning 37 games. The 2” x 1 1/2” photo is mounted on the tradecard in cabinet style. The photo is a clean Excellent, while the Poor to Fair card has multiple creases, a clipped corner and restoration on the reverse. A very early team photo with 22 year old Galvin just before he began his Hall of Fame major league career.
