The 1969 Chicago Cubs continue to hold a special place in the hearts and minds of baseball fans today by virtue of their famous late-season collapse, thus earning them the dubious distinction as baseball's most famous second place finisher. Presented is a highly desirable Chicago Cubs road jersey worn by perennial All-Star shortstop Don Kessinger during that memorable season. The grey flannel road jersey is lettered "Chicago" across the front and features the number "11" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numbers are in blue. The Major League Baseball "100th Anniversary" patch appears on the left sleeve, and the Cubs' team patch is situated on the opposite sleeve. The uniform number, year, set number and size of the garment, "11-69-3-40," are displayed in blue chain-stitch along a grey strip tag located in the collar. The year, "1969," is chain-stitched in blue along the left front tail, directly above which is a "Wilson 40" label. Kessinger has signed the jersey twice in black marker, once along the right breast (grading "8") and again on the reverse (grading "7"), above his number. Original and unaltered, the jersey displays moderate wear throughout. This is an impeccable Cubs flannel road jersey dating from one of the most famous years in team history. LOAs from Dan Knoll & Dave Bushing/SCD Authentic, and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA.
