Here are two versions of the undisputed key card in one of the scarcest and most valuable of all Topps test issue productions. The innovative "Stand-Ups" creations were intended for use as free-standing displays of individual star players. The "finished," thick-cardboard example here offered, having undergone all aspects of production, features the die-cutting necessary to allow this, and the other, "proof" specimen is made of thin cardstock. Both 3-1/8" x 5-1/4" items carry the smiling likeness of Mickey Mantle and present superbly. Includes: 1967 Topps Stand-Ups #8 Mickey Mantle Proof Card - A fully printed, brightly resolved obverse is coupled in this example with a clean, blank back on light-colored cardstock and nice points at each corner aspect. Overall appearance is attractive and strong, with determined scrutiny revealing a small wrinkle at the lower-right's extremity. About EX condition. 1967 Topps Stand-Ups #8 Mickey Mantle Regular-Issue Card - In defiance of the hobby's assumption that these rare Stand-Ups were never actually packaged and sold to the public, this exciting card bears traces of wax on the midsection of its back - confirming its one-time containment in a gumpack wrapper. This rarity has four square corners and its tiny, delicate edge perforations are untouched. Straightforward viewing yields a minimally EX/MT cardfront presentation, but close examination reveals patterned gum-slab "bubbling" at the right side. Only a scant few of each Stand-Ups card is known to exist, and they're "must-have" items for the advanced Mickey Mantle collection.
