Offered is surely one of the most unusual, not to mention attractive, 1931 New York Yankee team signed items extant. At first glance this appears to simply be an irregular shaped cut of wood, bark intact. What it is, actually, is a novelty postcard from the era, with the front featuring a beautiful hand-painted image of a St. Petersburg landmark and the reverse a designated area for the placement of a postage stamp. Instead of using the reverse to pen a message, however, the original owner decided instead to acquire the signatures of 16 members of the 1931 Yankees. The signatures appearing on the piece are those of Andrews, Burke (coach), Chapman, Gehrig ("10"), Gomez, Lazzeri, Pennock, Perkins, Reese, Ruffing, Ruth ("9-10"), Sherid, Walker, Weaver, Werber and Wells. Also appearing on the postcard is the signature of "Mrs. Babe Ruth." This piece (3-1/4" x 9") was signed during spring training of 1931 as noted by the black ink notation along the upper right border which reads, "St. Petersburg Fla, 1931." All of the signatures contrast beautifully against the light background of the wood and grade "9-10" overall. Excellent to Mint condition with a small mounting hole on the reverse (not affecting any of the signatures). A true conversation piece offering exceptional visual appeal.
