A warm and loving smile crosses the face of Pope John Paul II in this 8" x 11-3/4" color photograph signed by the Holy Father. Captured at a point later in his life, John Paul rests his head in his left hand as he stares directly into the camera’s lens. The Pope’s strong, black ink signature, "Johannes Paulus II" ("10") has been penned in Latin and graces the bottom of the NM portrait. The image features the raised Vatican seal of the "Secreteria Particolare di Sua Santita." Such a seal is only affixed on photographs that feature the authentic signature of the Pope. John Paul, who was born Karol Jozef Wojtyla near Krakow, Poland, in 1920, was elected head of the Roman Catholic Church in 1978 and served until his death in 2005. LOAs from Steve Grad and John Reznikoff/PSA DNA.
