This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on:
A near-complete roll of 9,900 1969 Topps Decals ( originally issued as a 10,000 decal roll), that includes 12 of the 48 different decals which comprise the complete set. Thus, four different rolls, each representing 12 different players, would be required to allow for complete sets. This 9,900 count uncut roll has approximately 825 each of the following 12 players: Reggie Jackson (rookie), Bob Gibson, Harmon Killebrew, Ron Santo, Tony Oliva, Tommy Davis, Willie Horton, Sam McDowell, Denny McLain, Dave McNally, Dick Selma and Chris Short. The Decals are in minimally Near Mint to Mint condition. The 1969 Topps Decal insert issue was manufactured in the U.K. as is printed on the front of each decal. The offered roll was one of two separated from its original shipment to Topps in the spring of 1969, and was eventually classified as unclaimed property with the U.S. Customs Department. The roll offered here was purchased at a U.S. Customs auction in the early 1970's and, other than the 100 or so decals that were removed from the front of the roll some time ago, has remained as clean and untouched as when it was purchased over 35 years ago. If unrolled, the decals on this roll would span over a quarter mile! The SMR "book" value of the 9,900 decals on this roll is well in excess of $100,000!!
