A year before breaking in with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Pee Wee Reese poses for the camera with his Louisville Colonels teammates. The young shortstop sits fourth from the right, his face full of focus and intensity. Because this very photo was personally owned by Reese—as attested by an accompanying LOA from his niece—it is not signed by him. Eighteen of his fellow Colonels, however, have placed their autographs in black ink, including Lucky Lefebvre, Ted Olson, Freddie Shaffer, Fred Slugton, and Vince Sherlock. The signatures average "5-6," though several are extremely faint. As for the well-resolved, 12"-x-18" photo, it strictly grades VG/EX on the basis of natural vertical surface cracking. In the lower-right corner is the copyright mark of Baker photography studio in good ol' Columbus, Ohio. Reese played for the American Association minor league ballclub in 1938 and 1939. LOA from Pee Wee's niece, Marty Reese Green, and from Steve Grad/PSA DNA and James Spence Authentication.
