Many New Yorkers felt an obligation to root for the Brooklyn Dodgers. From 1884 through 1958, Flatbush baseball was a beloved institution with which fans could identify. "Dem Bums" left their mark in Brooklyn and remain in the hearts of that borough's natives. One fan took devotion one step further and created the impressive display offered here. Elaborately matted and framed in Dodger blue to total dimensions of 31-3/8" x 41-3/8", this time-consuming effort begins with a central portrayal (13-1/8" x 18-7/8" visible portion) of Willard Mullins' famous "Dem Bums" image. The true focal point, however, is the wondrous montage of Brooklyn players' signatures, including 18 Hall of Famers. The sixty-nine total autographs (from players whose careers span the team's history) have been scripted on sixty-one individual items, including album pages, index cards. a lined sheet of paper, a postcard (judging from modest evidence of postal cancellations), a black-and-white-photo, a First Day Cover and a ticket stub. Each vehicle presents at the apparent EX to EX/MT level. Included are sixty-five signatures (various media averaging "9" unless noted) of: Walt Alston ("3", faint), Sandy Amoros, Dave Bancroft ("2-3", faint), Frenchy Bordagaray, Rocky Bridges, Dolph Camilli, Roy Campanella, Al Campanis, Max Carey (added "Good Luck!" and "BB Hall of Fame"), George J. Cisar, Pete Coscarart, Billy Cox, Roger Craig, Tony Cuccinello, Chas. Chuck Dressen, Don Drysdale, Leo Durocher, Harry Eisenstat, Woody English, Chas. "Wes" Flowers, Carl Furillo, Burleigh A. Grimes, Lefty Lee Grissom, Luke Hamlin, Babe Herman, Billy Herman, Jim Hughes, Gil Hodges, Waite C. Hoyt, George L. Kelly, Clyde King, Freddie Lindstrom, Al Mamaux, Heinie Manush, Rube Marquard, Russ Meyer, Ray Moore, Bobby Morgan, Rocky Nelson, Don Newcombe, Frank "Lefty" O'Doul, George E. Pfister, Johnny Podres, Gordon "Babe" Phelps, Maryland Potter, Bob Ramazotti, Stanley "Packey" Rogers, Stan Rojek, Pee Wee Reese (3), Johnny Rutherford, Johnny Schmitz, George "Shotgun" Shuba, Fred Sington, Duke Snider (2), Casey Stengel, Chris Van Cuyk, Dazzy Vance, Ben Wade, Dixie Walker, Rube Walker, Zack D.
