A very fine casting of this popular subject matter. The "Angel of Industry" is dressed in a fine negligee, holding a chisel in one hand and a torch in the other, her hair flowing behind her as her wings carry her to new heights of industrialization. These fine bronze statues were usually produced as finials to be added to the domes of grand exhibition halls. This particular example was at one time entirely gilded in pure gold leaf, but it has obviously been used as an "outside" fitting and was exposed to the elements over the years. Much of the original gilding has long since gone, and only traces of its original glory are still in evidence. In fine original condition, unmounted. There are three drilled and tapped securing holes on the base. Most likely of French origin. Measures 26" x 13 1/3". Weight 65 lbs.

Estimated Value: $2,000-$3,000.
