Offered is an incredibly rare program for the Providence Baseball Club from 1914 with 19 year old Babe Ruth in the printed lineup. After being signed by the Boston Red Sox earlier in the season, Ruth was sent to Providence by the Red Sox who had been insufficiently impressed with the young left-hander at the Major League level. The Babe spent only six weeks on the Providence roster, leaving scant opportunity to have his name appear in a printed lineup card. This program is for a game against Newark which can be narrowed to one of three games played by Newark at Providence during Ruth's hitch in Rhode Island on September 6-8, 1914. The 12-page program has a Excellent to Mint cover containing a cartoon ad for Ford cars. The Excellent plus (minor tears) interior is made of cheap paper which has darkened with time but still retains the printed roll recording the Babe's tenure in Providence. Neatly scored. An historic gem from Ruth's last minor league team.
