Born in a town with minor league baseball ties, Peoria, Illinois native Jim Thome has since gone on to Major League stardom. Presented here is a batting helmet and signed stadium-issued program cover from Thome's 1993 season with the Charlotte Knights. The headgear's blue plastic shell features two ear flaps, a Knights logo decal (partially detached) adhered to the front center, and a black Dymo-label with "THOME" attached to the front of the bill. At the helmet's base, a manufacturer's warning sticker is accompanied by an "ABC" logo and side-by-side "2" and "5" transparent decals. The size "7-3/8" item has plastic-lined, foam-rubber padding lining the interior's circumference, as well as at the base, crown and each ear flap. Heavy use is evident, with scuff marks about the surface and soiling within. Included, as well, is a laminated "FIRST PITCH" 1993 program cover signed by Thome—whose image graces the cover. The blue Sharpie scripting shows "10" strength. Between stints with the parent club in Cleveland that season, Thome belted 25 homers and plated 102 for the Knights. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS, Steve Grad/PSA DNA and James Spence Authentication.
