Already well established as a Triple Crown threat and bona fide superstar, 24-year-old Ken Griffey, Jr. paced the American League with 40 home runs in 1994. But as Lou Piniella charges prevailed in nine of ten contests to pull within two games of the front-running Texas Rangers, a players strike brought a premature end to the season on August 12. Offered here is a Seattle Mariners road jersey signed and worn by "Junior" during that summer that "could have been." This gray knit, button-down apparel features "SEATTLE" arched across the chest in blue-on-teal-on-white tackle twill, with the 10-time Gold Glove recipient's familiar number "24" sewn to the back in blue-on-teal. Arched on a name plate above the number, "GRIFFEY" stands alone. (Three seasons prior, "JR." accompanied, so as to differentiate the phenom from his teammate and father, Ken Griffey, Sr.) A 3-3/4"-diameter M's team logo patch adorns the left sleeve, while an MLB silhouette logo "100th ANNIVERSARY" patch highlights the right sleeve. Blue piping lines the neck and button path and, situated on the left front tail, a "RUSSELL ATHLETIC" size "46" manufacturer's label is accompanied by a "2" EXTRA LENGTH" flap tag and a strip tag denoting "1994." Between the numerals and name on the back, Griffey's blue Sharpie signature shows "8-9" strength. Heavy wear is evident. Graded A-10 by MEARS. The item is accompanied by an LOA signed by Griffey, as well as LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS & Steve Grad/PSA DNA.
