Graded EX+ 5.5 by Global Authentication, the company's "1st Graded" example at its tier. Due to their highly sensitive gold borders, T205's are often considered to be the most difficult cards in our hobby to find in praiseworthy condition, and aesthetically gifted examples depicting major Hall of Famers, understandably, don't frequently change hands. Offered is a distinguished T205 collectible bearing the smiling portrait likeness of Christy Mathewson. Mathewson's on-field accomplishments are absolutely legendary. It's doubtful that there has ever been a pitcher who dominated opposing batters as consistently as Matty, and the classic Gold Border is arguably the most compelling card ever made of this era-dominating figure. On its front, Mathewson is captured at ease, with his cap pushed back and his face in full view. (The portrait was so appealing to fans of the clean-cut hero that it was used repeatedly, to advertise a number of products of the time.) This specimen delivers a well-focused image with rich, dark colors. There are spots of wear at the corners, but, otherwise, the gold borders are fundamentally intact—a noteworthy attribute in the generally unforgiving issue. The card's "Piedmont" reverse is quite clean and exhibits perfect blue printing. This is a memento that's guaranteed to inspire admiration, in exceptionally sharp Excellent-plus condition.
