Graded as BU MS62 by PCGS. Early U.S. half dollars are among the most studied coin series ever produced by the U.S. Mint, as the plethora of varieties and die types that have been identified confirms. This 1834 Capped Bust Half Dollar is a Large Date with Small Letters variation that is nicely struck on the obverse, with some slight softness of strike mostly evident on the tops of the eagle's wings and talons on the reverse. Both sides are awash in a mixture of russet and blue-green toning that covers the majority of the surface area, with patches of original, bright and some subdued luster peeking out from under this patina like the sun through the clouds. A much nicer looking specimen than the grade would suggest, as the patina does a good job of hiding any would-be distractions.
