While delivering a deceptive knuckle ball, Phil Niekro enjoyed a lengthy career that produced 318 triumphs and 3,342 strikeouts. Often aiding his own mound cause, Niekro was known to wield the lumber with authority, too, collecting seven homers and 260 lifetime hits. Here offered is an autographed Louisville Slugger "S216" block-letter (last name only) bat employed by the Hall of Famer during the latter portion of his storied career. With a deep brown patina, the 33-1/s", 31-1/2-oz. weapon hails from the 1980-1983 labeling period (coinciding with Niekro's final four years in Atlanta) and features a deep, defined centerbrand and barrel stampings. Niekro's silver marker signature and inscription of "H.O.F. 97" projecting about "8" strength above the latter detail. The uncracked white ash item shows light use, with ball and bat-rack marks throughout, as well as a few surface abrasions. Graded A-5 by MEARS. Graded GU-5 by John Taube. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS, John Taube & Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/PSA DNA and James Spence Authentication.
