The 3-1/2" x 5" original artwork for the 1953 Topps baseball card of Cincinnati Reds pitcher Frank Smith, number 116 in the series, is offered. Smith, a reliable righthander, spent parts of seven seasons in the Major Leagues with the Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals. The larger-sized painted version of his portrait is a delight to view. Here is an incredibly finely detailed painting, one that delivers the essence of a set which, for many, carries their fondest collecting memories. An absolutely unique and one-of-a-kind item, and a rare foundation artifact from this popular series of Topps baseball cards, the artwork presents at a bright, minimally EX/MT level. Accompanied by an apparent NM (o/c) example of the actual card, as issued, the artwork and the finished card have been professionally wood-framed and matted as a dual display to overall 11-1/2" x 17" dimensions.
