Legendary June 2009

This is a delightful and rare stickpin souvenir of Pittsburgh's Forbes Field, dated 1909, the season in which the Pirates won their very first World Championship over the Detroit Tigers. Printing on the item's original display card reads, "Compliments of the Pittsburgh Base Ball Club - Opening of Forbes Field - June 30, 1909," and the same date (with the word "Pittsburgh") forms the legend of the metal stickpin's 5/8"-long figural glove component. (The pin measures 2-1/2" in overall length.) Although the delicate 2" x 4" card is essentially destroyed, and it's difficult to make out the ghostly printed image of the ballpark at the top edge, it may be a one-of-a-kind survivor. The pin remains fully intact, about EX/MT.
