The Toledo-based Mrs. Sherlock's Bakery sponsored several pin productions during the 1920s and '30s, and all but one of them featured players of the hometown Mud Hens. That exception was unveiled in 1924 as a pinback promotion devised to trumpet ten of Major League Baseball's brightest stars. Projecting from the surface of 7/8"-diameter pinbacks were the photo images of the game's best, as was most widely acknowledged at the time. The offered partial set includes: Honus Wagner (EX), Tris Speaker (VG/EX), Rogers Hornsby (EX), George Sisler (VG/EX), Ty Cobb (EX), Babe Ruth (EX/MT) and Walter Johnson (VG). Cobb, Hornsby and Sisler show light staining or toning in their portraits' white backgrounds. Bastian Bros. of Rochester, New York was commissioned for the release's production, and that firm's intact backpaper insert has been retained by all members of this offering. Missing Maranville, Alexander and Moran for completion. These pins' surfaces are generally quite clean in appearance, and this array stands as a very presentable array from its star-packed series.
