Presented is a 31-piece near set of Kolb's Mothers' Bread baseball player pinbacks from the early 1920s. Shortly after WW I, the Reading (Pennsylvania) Aces were franchised in the International League and, much like other teams of this period and caliber, they were intensely celebrated by their local fans. Not lost to the adulation was the regional bakery, Kolb's Mothers' Bread, who sponsored a pin issue featuring their diamond celebrities. The issue was first created in 1922 and was then modified a bit to continue in '23, thereby generating a total of 32 different pins. These are 7/8"-diameter, black-and-white photo portraits. In this collection of 31 different, all but four (Brown, Connelly, Kelley, Kotch) bear paper inserts in the reverse identifying their manufacturer, Bastian Brothers. Baseball stand-out Al Schacht and the scarcer Gus Getz pin are featured in this challenging group. The collection also includes Chief Bender and Hinkey Haines. Generally EX with intact pinbacks; a few (notably Connelly and Mamaux) are somewhat lesser. Missing Lynn for completion.
