A baseball entrepreneur like none before or since, Charlie Finley was the driving force behind an all-moustachioed team, World Series night games, and snug-fitting knit uniforms. Presented here is another Finley innovation: the Charles O. Finley "night" baseball. Unveiled in a March 29, 1973 Cactus League exhibition between Finley's A's and the Cleveland Indians, the ball flaunts a fluorescent orange surface—which, Finley claimed, was easier for fans and players to see. Batters, however, disagreed, contending that they could not pick up the spin of the ball due to the similarity of the laces' and cover's colors. The offered, MT condition example remains in its original box (which has been opened from the bottom) and a notation on the red-and-black cardboard container denotes its revolutionary contents.
