Legendary June 2009

Having suffered through more than a century of heartache, frustration and near-misses, Chicago Cubs fans cling not to any of their club's infrequent National League pennants during that stretch, but rather, to the haunting memory of "what could have been" in 1969. For it was an unthinkable collapse that year that typifies the franchise's historical woes more than do recollections of a bespectacled fan or a first baseman's gaffe on a certain Sunday afternoon in the Mission Valley. Here offered is a vivid reminder of that season-gone-awry: an 11" x 14", black-and-white image of the Cubs' Opening Day line-up, signed by 11 members of that ill-fated North Side squad. The item's blue Sharpie, "9-10"-quality signatures include: Banks, Beckert, J. Hickman, Hundley, Jenkins, Kessinger, Regan, Santo, W. Smith, Williams and Young. Pre-Certified by PSA DNA.
