The Mets former skipper wrote a cordial, supportive note to one of the team’s coaches on the back of this pre-printed family holiday card. In bold, blue ballpoint script, Stengel penned the word “over” beneath the card’s obverse message, and on the back he prophetically inscribed, “’Pignatano’ 1969 may become the greatest year of the Mets. ‘Gil’ and you coaches handled the players on the field and off the field wonderfully with the youth + lack of experience. Good Luck in 1969. (signed) Casey Stengel.” The 4” x 6” card reveals about EX condition; the venerable baseball man’s penmanship ranges “8-10”. Stengel, a 1966 Hall of Fame inductee, passed away in 1975. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA.
