This representation is a 1991-1992 Michael Jordan game-worn white mesh jersey, along with game-worn shorts. The jersey is made of white nylon mesh of a weight and texture consistent with the era’s Champion 1980s-early 1990s NBA uniforms. The neck and arm trim is a tightly woven cotton ribbed braid and displays the correct striping pattern; a feature of the neck and arm trim that correctly dates the jersey to this turn-of-the-decade period is the large center white stripe, which was scaled back in size to become less pronounced by the mid-1990s. The Champion tagging is correct for the Chicago Bulls. This jersey is a size 46, which is the size Jordan predominantly wore with Champion. There are two tags affixed in straight stitch in the lower left front tail. The one to the right is the Champion size tag, size 46. The one to the left is the Champion NBA exclusivity tag. It denotes the 1991 season and the 2” extra body length. Affixed to the lower left inside gusset seam side seam is a flap tag denoting fabric content tag. The Bulls [B-U-L-L-S] 4-1/2” full block team name on front is screened-on in red-on-black heavy plastic and is arched at the correct angle across the jersey front. The numerals “23” on front and back are correct in size, font style and positioning, and are identical in color and application method. The “JORDAN” Name On Back (NOB) is appliquéd in solid red in a plain block font. This is the correct style for the pre-sewn-on period. [Note: This was the final season for the Bulls in screened-on lettering and numerals.] Additionally, the shallow arch of the NOB and its placement position over the back numerals appears correct. The drop is accurate, although the width of the lettering is thicker than many photo image examples. However, variations certainly exist in appliqué, and it would be imprudent not to note the slight variation. The NBA logo is affixed in proper position on the upper left arm stirrup approximately 5” below the top stirrup seam. There is an appliquéd black mourning band on the upper left shoulder stirrup, the style of which matches exemplars. The absence of a mourning band precisely dates the jersey to early 1991-92, the first two weeks of the season. (An often-seen mourning band from this period honored Bulls’ front office staffer Sheri Berto, who unexpectedly passed away in November of 1991.) The wear of the jersey is light, but that is not abnormal for this style with the heavy plasticized numerals and lettering. The tagging and cotton neck and arm trim do show light signs of wear and washings. The accompanying mesh trunks have the Bulls’ logos screened on to the diamond-shaped side inserts and the interior features double waistband labels: “Champion 1991, seam +2/rise +2 with markered “23,” and Champion size 36 with markered “23.” The trunks demonstrate solid wear with some pinkish staining owing to multiple washings. Signed in black marker (“8”) across the jersey’s lower right front. LOA from JSA. LOA from Legendary Auctions.
