Having rattled off three consecutive American League pennants, Tiger skipper Hughie Jennings was the "toast of the town," so to speak. Little wonder then that a Detroit-based bakery, Morton's, seized on his regional fame to promote their product. Catalyst to this little commercial marriage was Whitehead & Hoag - maker of a wide range of metallic souvenirs. For Morton's they produced this stick pin in the form of a celebratory banner, and it bears the photo image of the beloved leader of the Tigers. The graphics are illustrated in a rich enamel, and the reverse, of course, advertises one of the sponsor's products. The pin, we're fairly confident, was produced to feature Jennings only, and by its color scheme and Buster Brown motif, we naturally associate it with the more ambitious campaign conducted by Morton's in the same period to showcase many of the champion Tiger players as collector pins. This particular piece is characterized by a very slightly imperfect surface, yet it would be welcomed at EX/MT.
