Depending on which side of the scrimmage line they were on, Walter Payton's contemporaries held night-and-day interpretations of the great Chicago Bears' "Sweetness" moniker. To teammates, the eventual Canton honoree's nickname was most appropriate, as the Mississippi-born running back employed a lethal combination of speed, power, and cat-like maneuverability that repeatedly rendered defenders helpless. For those paralyzed foes, "Sweetness" was anything but, as he packed a wealth of power within a deceptive, 5-foot-10, 200-pound frame. Payton's unrivaled résumé boasts better than 9-1/2 miles (16,726 yards) of rushing, 9 Pro-Bowl selections and 10 seasons of 1,000-plus rushing yardage. Add to these fantastic totals 77 100-plus-yard rushing contests, 125 career touchdowns, NFL MVP accolades in 1977 and 1985, one Super Bowl ring and, most fittingly, NFL Hall of Fame enshrinement (1993). Offered here are a Chicago Bears road jersey and pants that were worn by the all-time NFL legend during the mid-1980s. Also included is a custom-embroidered towel. Includes: Bears Mid-1980s Road Jersey - The white mesh pullover garment displays "PAYTON" heat-pressed to the back nameplate in midnight navy blue-on-orange lettering. The athlete's number "34" is featured on the front, back, and both sleeves in like fashion, and both sleeves showcase the team's midnight navy blue-and-orange stripe pattern; "GSH" initials are affixed to the left sleeve (in honor of George Halas). The jersey displays extra length, althought not designated as such, and a Wilson main label size 44 with laundry instructions has been stitched to the front left tail. Six individual team repairs are present, and this exceptional gamer displays moderate to heavy game use in the form of seam and fabric wear, as well as solid dings on the numerals; Bears Pants - The midnight blue satin pants showcase the team's orange-white-orange stripes on the sides. The garment's original belt and laces are intact, and penned at the interior waistband in black marker is "34 - 87," likely an indication that Payton wore these pants during the 1987 season. Stitched within the crotch cover is a Wilson main label size 26 with laundry instructions. Grass and dirt stains are noticeable at scattered regions. Moderate use; Custom-Embroidered "Sweetness" Towel - white towel with "SWEETNESS - 34" stitched in blue and orange respectively, along with a tightly stitched kangaroo likeness.
