Produced in conjunction with the NBA's 50th Anniversary in 1996, this awe-inspiring lithograph was one of an extremely limited number signed during that season's All-Star Game festivities. The majestic 25" x 39" piece displays the likenesses of all 50 NBA legends and, remarkably, 49 of the 50 signatures (Pete Maravich, deceased at the time of printing, being the only missing autograph). Many players have commented that their inclusion on the elite roster was one of their greatest basketball honors. After all, membership to the NBA's "50 Greatest Players" club is far more exclusive than the Basketball Hall of Fame! The simply breathtaking litho was limited to just 250 pieces worldwide, of which the small portion offered to the public was immediately spoken for and, in many cases, has remained in the hands of the original owners. With the subsequent passing of several key figures, including Wilt Chamberlain, it would be impossible to ever duplicate such a gathering in the future. The Dreier Collection's NBA Edition example ("83/100") shows NM condition and "10" signatures, and has been handsomely matted and framed to measure just over 3 feet by 4 feet. It is accompanied by an official leather-bound Certificate of Authenticity signed by NBA Commissioner David Stern as well as a video cassette titled "50 Greatest Player Lithograph Feature from Home Court Video Magazine."
Included among the pantheon of hardcourt immortals are: George Mikan, Oscar Robertson, Elvin Hayes, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Willis Reed, John Stockton, Hakeem Olajuwon, Bill Russell, Dave Cowens, Walt Frazier, John Havlicek, Charles Barkley, Pete Maravich (unsigned - d. 1988), Elgin Baylor, Nate Thurmond, Hal Greer, Clyde Drexler, Wilt Chamberlain, Paul Arizin, Jerry Lucas, George Gervin, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, Jerry West, Dolph Schayes, Dave DeBusschere, Shaq O'Neal, Moses Malone, Earl Monroe, Dave Bing, Bob Cousy, Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Bill Cunningham, Wes Unseld, Kevin McHale, Michael Jordan, Sam Jones, Rick Barry, Bob Pettit, Nate Archibald, Bill Walton, Isiah Thomas, Lenny Wilkens, Bill Sharman, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, James Worthy, Robert Parrish, and David Robinson. Not only does the "50 Greatest Players" autographed litho reign as the most desirable modern-day basketball collectible, it is also arguably the finest such print created in any sport—bar none! LOA from JSA. Please note: Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, the cost of shipping may be substantial.
